In 1992 Lufthansa and Munich Airport (FMG) jointly founded our company: EFM - Gesellschaft für Enteisen und Flugzeugschleppen am Flughafen München mbH (EFM). Since then we have provided ground services for aircraft: pushback and towing, de-icing - including engine de-icing - and air conditioning. In addition we offer training, consultation and technical support in towing and de-icing.
Our company has been certified under ISO 9001 (quality management) since July 1997. We have integrated environmental protection into our quality management as a key priority. We take environmental aspects fully into account in our everyday operations and project planning. Underscoring this commitment is our ISO 14001 certification (environmental management), which we received in July 2003.
The Munich Method
Experts from all over the world visit Munich Airport to learn about our de-icing system.
The Munich method - safe, economical and environmentally friendly - is a highly convincing concept:
- State-of-art technology for de-icing vehicles, de-icing pads and recycling
- One-man operation of all de-icing vehicles
- De-icing with running engines at runway ends
- Short de-icing times
- Minimal occurrences of repeated de-icing due to exceeded hold-over times
- Used de-icing fluids are collected and recycled
- Cost-cutting through recycling: recovery of up to 70 percent of annual requirements
- Heat from the recycling facility is used to heat the airport
